ENG 4UI ARTICLE COMPARISON
Different not difficult
The article I chose is an article about a man diagnosed with Aspergers at a very young age. Following the theme of reality in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, both this article and the novel highlight the differences between how people with Aspergers operate from how people without Aspergers do. Firstly, many children with Aspergers face difficulties interacting with children of their age for various reasons. For instance, most children with Aspergers can find themselves fixated on any given subject , topic or thing. Thus leaving them vulnerable to bullying or abuse by other children or even adults. In Christopher's case, what made him different was that in his version of reality everything had to have some form of logic, making him unable to understand emotions , mood or even perceive most jokes. Furthermore, this article not only connects to the novel in a thematic sense but is also a real world example of how someone like Christopher thinks and feels. The following article, written by a man who has lived with Aspergers his entire life, states one of the many characteristics he cannot change specifically in different social experiences he states “In social situations I still struggle, and I find it near impossible sometimes to break out of my routines” this quote Gives a deeper insight and understanding into the mind of Christopher Boone through the author of the article. Such habits are things beyond the control of Christopher and many others. All in all, the connection between the novel and this article is very clear as it is evident that living with Aspergers can cause one to perceive many aspects of life in a variety of ways forcing someone like Christopher to form habits and routines in order for him to exist in a world that is mostly desensitized to the sensitivities of his brain.
